The Race to New York City…I need your help

If you follow along closely to the comings and goings we share here at Eat It and Like It, and I know a lot of you do, then you probably heard me talking about my plans for the one of the biggest triumphs of my life this year.

I’ll cut to the chase. Some time ago I decided I would enter the 2022 New York City Marathon. Go ahead, call me crazy. I thought I was actually, until I started training for it. I’m having a blast.

The reality is the off the wall idea came as a promise to my daughter. I made it wayyyy back in 2019 on the heels of her audition to her dream college, New York University.

“If you get in, I will attempt the NYC Marathon before you graduate.” I said.

They’ll deny it now, but there were snickers in the room at the time.

There was one small problem. I’m not, nor have I ever been a runner. That being the case, you don’t just walk in off of the street and sign up to run the largest marathon in the world. Not at all. Professionals must qualify with times from other races. Amateurs? Well, we are allowed in as well. But we have to commit to raise money for one of any number of charities.

Miami Half Marathon – March 2022

I chose children and I’m registered to run the race in November. Back in March I ran my first ever half marathon in Miami. I ran the Publix 5K in Savannah in April. I’m running roughly 10-15 miles a week currently. They call them “maintenance runs.”

Physically, I may be in the best shape of my adult life. My doctors gave me the cleanest bill of health a few weeks ago. I’m beyond excited about all of it. I wouldn’t be here without the help of two dear friends. My running coach Karin Best and Trainer Drew Edmonds of Fit Gym on Wilmington Island.

Of course, I am here to ask for your help in meeting my fundraising goal. It’s only $3,000. We just kicked off the campaign. I would expect to meet it by the end of the Summer.

As is always the case with any fundraiser, every little bit counts. So if you feel inclined to toss a few bucks into our cookie jar, we would be ever appreciative. You can click the button below to learn a little bit more about my ‘why’, my childhood in New York City and the charity that I am raising money for.

If you’d like to donate in the name of a business, any donation $100 or greater will get a thank you on our television show. Saturdays at Noon on WTOC-TV. Thank you in advance for your support. Not only in this endeavor, but anything related to Eat It and Like It.
