Great news for those of you who live in Pooler. One of our favorite neighborhood pizza spots is back. Same spot, same family, same pizza.
Back in 2018 we got a tip about a neighborhood spot doing fantastic NY style pizza. We checked it out and discovered a hard working family man named Joe Calderon making pies and other assorted goodies at the end of a strip mall at 990 Pine Barren Road near the intersection of Pooler Parkway.
We were so impressed, we featured him on our television show (Saturdays at Noon on WTOC). You can see our segment above.
Not long after that, Joe tells made a deal with another local pizzeria to buy the place, but he’d stay on as an employee. Not long after that, he ran into some health issues and had to take some time away.
Very quickly the neighborhood realized the product just wasn’t the same without Joe. Business suffered.
Joe eventually returned to the spot and with his own recipes. In September of this year, the lease on the space was up. The buildings owner, Joe says, offered a renewal, but only if Joe was back in charge of the operation. So he took it.
After a 3 month shut down to re-build the space to his liking, Joe and his family re-opened The Brothers Pizza. The day I found out, I raced to Pooler to make sure it was the same as it had been before. It was. Quality hand made NY Style pies with plenty of indoor seating and a TV to keep an eye on the ball game.
And oh, by the way, don’t sleep on the wings. They are great as well.
