River Street’s Bayou Cafe to close after 30 years

For all of the growth we’ve enjoyed in Savannah over the last few years, it makes it almost inevitable that stories like these will continue to dot the landscape as we move forward.

Long time River Street favorite Bayou Cafe will be closing their doors at the end of the month. The news was confirmed to us by owner Vince Zambito on Wednesday afternoon.

Vince originally came to Savannah in 1977 and ran several businesses downtown including the very popular Cagney’s. Despite the fact that River Street has become increasingly popular with tourists, Bayou always maintained a local following. Their music scene was active and vibrant with many local Food and Beverage workers taking to Bayou for “jam night.” One of the more popular ‘open mike’ evenings in Savannah.

In the last year, Vince has created Savannah Food Truck Force. An association dedicated to promoting Savannah’s Food Truck scene. It was created out of necessity during the pandemic last Spring, but has now blossomed with big plans beyond that.
