New Brewery -The Underdog coming to Savannah mid-2022

The die-hard beer drinkers in this town know it to be true. When you compare Savannah to other cities of similar size and demographics around the South, it is pretty obvious that Savannah’s brewery scene is a couple of steps behind.

The quality is there, depending on where you visit, but the volume just isn’t where it should be. Maybe “could be” is a better way to phrase it.

Jeremy Hammons has known this for a while. It is why his dream to open his own brewery in Savannah is one step closer to reality. He’s officially got the space to do it.

Jeremy is a familiar face on the beer scene here. He’s spent most of the last 7 years learning the ropes and working at Southbound Brewing Company. He joined them shortly after they opened. Later, he moved over to help get the very popular Hop Atomica off and running.

“I was a bartender when I went there.” he says, proud of the fact that he is very well versed in volume beer production without having started as a home brewer like so many others do.

Now he’s ready to do his own thing.

So, you are dying to know where, right? 120 East 42nd Street, directly behind Ardsley Station at Victory Drive and Drayton streets. If you’ve visited Ardsley Station, you’ve undoubtedly parked in the fenced-in lot across 42nd street. That will soon be home to about 15 or so spaces for the brand new brewery. The Underdog Brewing Company.

Jeremy says he thinks sitting across the road from Ardsley Station is a perfect way for both spots to ‘feed off of each other.’

“If someone is coming in here looking for a nice glass of wine or food along the lines of what they do? We can send them across the street.” he says. “But if someone just wants a few beers and munchies, they can send them our way.”

That whole block is going to change very quickly.

Jeremy is planning a huge bar inside with roughly 30 taps. There are also plans for a beer garden outside as well.

Food? Yes, there will be some. Nothing dramatic, he says. Pretzels, maybe sandwiches. Simple beer drinking eats.

He tells me this ‘perfect rectangle’ of a space is ideal to dress up pretty quickly. There is very little construction that needs to be done. Installation of all of the fun stuff will begin just after the first of the year. Jeremy expects to have the space ready to go early Summer 2022.
