Last Call in Bluffton: Pour Richard’s ends 14 plus year run

The announcement was made ‘officially’ back on January 20th. Pour Richard’s, one of Bluffton’s most beloved local restaurants would be closing, ending a 14 and a half year run. As you might imagine, the community was not happy about it.

“Each of you has played a vital role in our journey, and we are truly thankful for the countless memories we’ve created together.” was part of what they said in a statement made via social media. That, in fact, was the magic of Pour Richard’s

Besides the good food, much of Pour Richard’s appeal was the warm welcome. Always a warm welcome. Ally Rogers welcoming smile and Chef Richard Canestrari’s entertaining conversation during your meal. There was really never a dull moment at Pour Richard’s. Off the top of my head, I would say there’s been no restaurant in Bluffton that could match the energy at Pour Richard’s on a busy night. It was electric, which obviously had an appeal. Pour Richard’s was one of Bluffton’s most popular restaurants, and that’s saying something.

I enjoyed a brief chat with Richard on Wednesday, took one last look around, and smiled when I saw their chalkboard by the front door. At one time, it was a spot for their daily menu, under a spotlight, which it most certainly deserved.

For many years, the chalkboard at Pour Richard’s was a centerpiece

Richard was fairly clear. They are not ‘retiring.’ This is most certainly not ‘the end’ of anything. “I’m not giving up my passion.” he said.

He and Ally are just ready to do something else. Maybe they know what that is, maybe they don’t. We will all find out when they are ready to share. So it is fair to say we will probably see them again, and enjoy the opportunity to make some more memories at an establishment of theirs.

In the short term, they are hosting a goodbye toast Thursday night, beginning at 6pm. All are invited.

What about the space? There are plans for a new tenant to take over 4376 Bluffton Parkway. We’ll have more on that part of the story in a couple of days.
