Hilton Head Social Bakery at Shelter Cove adds interior dining area
Hilton Head Island’s best bakery now had some space for you to enjoy their sweet treats without needing to beat the heat.
Hilton Head Social Bakery has been an island favorite since they opened their doors nearly a decade ago at the shops at Shelter Cove Marina. Chef Phillipe Feret’s classic French boulangerie/pâtisserie was an instant hit when the doors opened long ago. Since then, their success has allowed them to expand to a 2nd full service location on William Hilton Parkway, but the thought of giving up their original space was never an option.
The views while enjoying a croissant and coffee were too good and the convenience for a large segment of the island was too necessary. The only issue was the lack of indoor seating at Shelter Cove. It can get too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.
“I was losing a couple of months in summer and winter” Chef Phillipe said. So he did something about it.
They took over an adjoining space and built out their own interior dining area. It’s small, but they don’t need a whole lot. They aren’t accommodating guests for full coursed meals, just maybe a snack or a sandwich and a beverage. It’s perfect for a pit stop.

The space lacks any windows, but Phillipe planned for that. On one wall is a large flat screen television panel with a live webcam look outside at Shelter Cove Marina. Fairly amazing what you can do with technology, huh? There was no view, so they created one.
In addition to their beautiful hand crafted pastries, Chef tells me they are planning to expand their menu a little bit and feature some sandwiches and other savory items. A grab and go window under construction near the front of the store will allow anyone looking to grab something quickly to do so without coming inside. Orders at the window will be limited to one item per person. More than that, you’ll need to step inside.

I’ve always been a big fan of Chef’s work, this renovation included. Yes, he built it all out himself. Soon a 2nd television panel will feature a video of Paris playing on a far wall as well. The tone will be set.
All you need to do, is Eat It and Like It.
