In yet the latest sign that times are absolutely changing in and around Savannah comes news that one of the most popular daiquiri bar chains in America is making another run at the Savannah market.
Plans are underway to open a Fat Tuesday at the corner of Bryan and Whitaker Streets downtown Savannah. The space was leased months ago, now signage in their window reveals alcohol licensing has been applied for.
While it is the first attempt in over a decade, this is not Fat Tuesdays first shot at setting up shop in the Savannah market. All the while, Wet Willie’s – which originated in Savannah-has been on River Street since they opened St. Patrick’s Day 1990.
Wet Willie’s also operates locations at City Market and Tybee Island.
Fat Tuesday started in New Orleans in the 80s (and still operates under the name New Orleans Daiquiri Bar in that city) and has expanded across America. The next closest locations to Savannah are Atlanta and Myrtle Beach, SC.
No firm date set for opening in Savannah, but it is likely a few months out yet.
