Capri Pizza HHI Gets Closer on Hilton Head’s South End

A new pizza spot on Hilton Head Island is always going to get the locals talking. After seafood, pizza might be the most debated food item around here. Everybody is chasing that taste of “back home,” whatever back home happens to be.

That’s why there has been plenty of curiosity around Capri Pizza HHI, the new casual Italian spot coming to the Coligny Plaza area on the island’s South End.

I wrote about them a little while back when the family behind Coastal Capri Ristorante first took possession of the old Rockfish/Bomboras space. Since then, I’ve had a chance to try the Chicago pan pizza they’ve been working on.

I’ll say this: it was great.

Thick, crisp around the edges, light but with plenty of flavor, and absolutely in the lane they promised. If that pizza is any indication of what’s coming, then the South End is about to have a very popular new option.

They’re still working through the buildout, cleanup, staffing, and all of the fun that comes with getting a restaurant open near the beach before summer. But the current hope is to open sometime in June.

I’ve seen the rough draft menu, there are pizzas of course, salads, pastas, a small kids menu, sandwiches, a variety of apps. Something for everyone. I think we’re going to enjoy this.

Chicago-style pizza on Hilton Head Island? Yeah, people are going to pay attention. We will keep you posted.
