Blues, Brews, BBQ & Bourbon coming to Savannah

When you think of drinking events this time of year, it’s not surprising to think of Oktoberfest, but there’s a new festival coming to the Hostess City that will have you singing the blues (in a good way) with Blues, Brews, BBQ & Bourbon on October 22.

Smith Mathews, a co-owner of Southbound Brewing Company and Hop Atomica, wanted to promote beer and Texas-style barbecue while raising money for the Coastal Conservation Association Georgia.

“We do a lot of events trying to raise money and awareness that helps with conservation efforts to preserve local fisheries and that type of thing. So it’s really an excuse for a bunch of fishermen to get together and raise money while saving the Georgia coastal habitats and drinking beers.”

Smith is excited to raise money for CCA, but he’s also excited to introduce more people to Texas-style barbecue which he says he and his brother have a fondness for.

“My brother and I love fishing too, but we are really into craft, Texas-style barbecue and with our restaurant, Hop Atomica, we have a big offset smoker, and we have big offset smokers at our houses. And so that’s just kind of like a hobby of ours.”

It won’t just be Hop Atomica’s craft barbecue available at Blues, Brews, BBQ & Bourbon. Slow Fire Barbecue will also be adding this event to the list of their pop-ups.

“We [also] have a guy named Nick Dampf coming with his brother. They are really big into Texas barbecue. We’ve actually had [Dampf Good BBQ] at Southbound once before. They’re out of North Carolina. They specialize in sliced brisket and beef ribs and pork ribs.”

And to wash it all down, you’ll have a long list of beers and bourbons to choose from.

“Jack Daniels is our title whiskey sponsor. They’re going to bring their new triple mash series… Then we have various other distilleries like Savannah Distilling and a couple of other spirits.”

Southbound will also have its own offerings as will Coopers’ Craft Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Amador.

On the beer menu, expect to see many local favorites like Sweet Water, Creature Comforts, Coastal Empire, and many more.

Admission starts at $70 and can be purchased on the website. The actual event will be at the Park at Eastern Wharf, 101 Port Street, in Savannah from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 22.
