Forsyth Farmers’ Market is moving their fall picnic to a new spot this year, and it’s a good one. The Fall Harvest Picnic — previously known as the Farm Picnic, previously held out at the Old Dairy Farm on the eastside — lands at Daffin Park on Sunday, October 11th, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. First time under those live oaks for this event, and it feels like a natural fit for something this size.

Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and set up at the center of the park near Victory and Waters. The food lineup is locally sourced hamburgers, hot dogs, sides, and desserts, with vegetarian and vegan options too, so nobody’s stuck eating a bag of chips while everyone else has a burger. The Savannah Jaycees are running kids’ activities — pumpkin painting, arts and crafts — and Skip Jennings and The Fractions are playing live music through the afternoon. It’s built as a family event, not a beer-garden situation, though I’m sure a good number of adults will be perfectly happy just parked in a chair listening to the band.

The real point of the picnic is what it funds. Every dollar from ticket sales goes back into Forsyth Farmers’ Market’s year-round programs — things like the 912 Food Farmacy and the doubled SNAP/EBT benefits they offer at the Saturday market in Forsyth Park. So this isn’t just a nice afternoon outside, it’s directly tied to keeping fresh food accessible for people across Savannah who need it.
