Watterson Brands Just Announced Their Biggest Play Yet — And It’s Coming to Bluffton
If you’ve had a Burnt Church cocktail or spent an afternoon at The Bank on Hilton Head, you already know the Watterson name. Now they’re taking on their biggest project yet, and it’s happening in a building most of us drove past for years without a second thought.
Moon King Entertainment Group, the Watterson Brands arm behind those two Lowcountry hangouts, just announced The Press Room — a massive new entertainment destination going into the old Island Packet newspaper building on Buck Island Road. Yes, the actual building where the presses used to run.
Phase One alone is a lot. Side Hustle Brewing is expanding into a full taproom restaurant seating close to 200. There’s a 15,000-square-foot beer garden with a 20-foot jumbo screen for game days, 5,500 square feet of arcade and family entertainment, a coffee shop, an ice cream parlor, and a 6,500-square-foot event space that can handle 300+ guests for weddings and corporate events.
And that’s before you get to Phase Two, which includes an 18-hole indoor black-light mini golf course and — this is the part that got me — a speakeasy in the building’s basement, which they’re calling the only one of its kind in the Lowcountry.
Construction starts in September, with Phase One targeted for Summer 2027.
Between Burnt Church, The Bank, and now this, Watterson Brands is quietly building out a pretty serious footprint across Bluffton and Hilton Head. Worth keeping an eye on how this transforms that stretch of Buck Island Road.
