Brian Huskey will tell you to always trust your gut.

“It’s funny, two years ago when we first discussed this concept that eventually became East End, I had wanted to do a 5 spot downtown.” he says.

A couple of years ago, when the the Huskey’s purchased the building long occupied by Juarez Mexican restaurant on the corner of Broughton and Price Streets downtown, there was a lot of research and discussion about what that space would become. There were trips to the Georgia Historical Society for original photographs and lots of investigation into what that space would become.

The renovation was beautiful, if not a tad expensive. The reception by the community of a slightly upscale concept didn’t quite fall into place as easily. There was chef turnover, which means new menus. The tweaking became the norm instead of the exception.

Now Brian and his wife Jennifer have wiped that slate clean. They’ve done a little touch up work on the space and are opening their latest space The 5 Spot on Broughton. A bit of a spin off of their very popular 5 Spot concept in Savannah’s Habersham Village. That space opens today.

“We are back to where I originally wanted to be.” Brian says “And excited to bring a casual, consistent, value driven product to downtown.”

Fans of original 5 Spot will find many of the same menu items. There are, however, some differences. The main bar now features 3 large screen televisions and has overall gotten a good-looking makeover.

“The decision to bring The 5 Spot downtown was an easy one,” Brian says. “The 5 Spot in Habersham Village is loved for its casual-hip vibe, traditional American-inspired food offerings, and killer Happy Hour bar specials. Our goal is to recreate the magic of midtown and bring the same dynamic to Broughton St.”

They will be open daily for lunch beginning at 11am. And guess what? Free parking available across the street.
