5 Great Savannah Burgers plus 2

Thanks to those who joined us for our season premiere of Eat It and Like It with Jesse Blanco. We mixed it up this week, but in doing so, offered you a look at 5 great burgers in Savannah. If you missed it, here they are. Keep two things in mind: We all know about Green Truck Pub. We loved their burgers. We are going for 5 others. And…this is not a ranking. At all.

THE WYLD DOCK BAR

If you are a burger connoisseur then you should know the story of the Holman and Finch Burger in Atlanta. The Wyld owner Tony Seichrist was working in that kitchen when that soon to be famous burger was being developed. Tony knows food, but he’s absolutely a burger geek.

Double Burger at The Wyld Dock Bar

Always in search of something close to perfection, they recently began getting their beef from Gen5 Farms in Upson, Georgia. They are doing what they call “Premium Grass Fed Beef.” Sourcing matters in a great product. Which this burger is. Try it.

CASTAWAYS -SANDFLY

This burger and the one at The Wyld are the two burgers I recommend most outside of downtown. How good is this burger? Castaways is a seafood restaurant. But the burger is regularly their top seller. Give it a spin. Ask for a side of the house made aioli. It’s made to order and delicious.

SMASHED SAVANNAH FOOD TRUCK

There are a lot of burgers on food trucks in Savannah. Some of them are good. Others are not good. Very few are great. This one is. Chef Chris spent some downtime during the pandemic perfecting his burger ahead of opening his truck. He played with fat content, with buns, with toppings. His result is a solid burger. Every time. The only way to find where he will be social media. Instagram and Facebook. Find him and Eat It and Like It.

OVER YONDER

Over Yonder is the back room of a very popular drinkin’ joint on Abercorn Street near Victory Drive. The french fries are maybe the top 2-3 in the city. Truth. The burger (photo above) is fantastic. Get it topped with bacon and a fried egg and make a mess. Because you will, but it is worth it. We think so much of this burger, we put it on our short list for potential cover shots for my book, Savannah Food Crawls, which will be out next Spring.

ARDSLEY STATION

An argument can be made that the burger at Ardsley Station is my favorite thing on their menu. Which is saying something considering they offer lunch, dinner and brunch menus with several tasty items.

The secret behind this burger, which features Brasstown Beef, is the grill. The grill in this kitchen is solid. Big enough flames to give you a great char grill, but maintain the moist juicy interior. I think pimento cheese has become as ubiquitous as ketchup around here, but on the burger at Ardsley along with bacon, come back sauce and onion strings…this burger is fantastic.

I also promised you two more great burgers…Betty Bombers (pictured below), The Collins Quarter and The Grey Market. There’s three. ha ha ha.

Truthfully, we could name 3-4 more than could go on the list. There are a lot of them.

  1. I have enjoyed the burger at Crystal Beer Parlor since I was 8 years old with my father and still now I enjoy it at 80.
