Savannah’s Fork and Dagger enters final week on Abercorn Street

Let us make this very clear off of the top. Fork and Dagger is NOT closing. They are moving.

The story has been shared many many times. But now the scene is going to change a little bit. Brian Torres and Sky Hoyt, partners in the very popular sandwich shop on Abercorn Street downtown are preparing to move their entire operation to the Fork and Dagger Latin Diner on Habersham and Anderson Streets a few blocks away.

The reason is very simple. With the sale of the Chatham Apartments building last year, everyone is being cleared out. Brian and Sky lost their lease in the ground floor of that building. It is time to go.

Fortunately for them, they had acquired the space at the old “Bobbies Diner” location owed by SCAD as well last year. The original plan was for a 2nd location. That all has changed.

Brian tells me the vision is for an expanded version of what they were doing on Abercorn Street. Though it is going to take a little bit of time to get up to speed. With conditions the way they are right now in Savannah, and it being the middle of Summer, which is generally slower anyway when you rely on students, there is no rush to get the Diner running at full speed just yet.

“We are shooting for the end of the Summer.” Brian says. “The biggest hurdle will be getting our wine and beer license for the Diner this Summer.”

They’re also rolling out a food truck this Summer. Primarily on Hilton Head Island, but it will be around on this side of the Savannah River as well.

Fork and Dagger will be moving to this location as of July 4th

In the short term, if you want to celebrate their success at the original spot with them this Saturday, they’ll be hosting a BYOB gathering to say good bye to 609 Abercorn.

There will also be a 4th of July ‘block party’ at the Diner on….Saturday, July 4th. See how that works?

Brian and Sky need to be commended for going into an eyesore of a space and making into something the neighborhood and many others embraced. There’s no doubt they’ll do the same at the diner. You can keep tabs on their progress this Summer by clicking here and following their Facebook page.
