Your Savannah Summer Top Five Must-Try List

Although the calendar doesn’t officially ring in summertime until the middle of June, most of us look at Memorial Day as the official start of summer.

Chatham County schools are out, the private schools will be very shortly and some families I know have already hit the road for fun and frolic in the summertime sun.

Most of that fun will take you far away from the Savannah area, but undoubtedly, you are going to find yourself at home at some point this summer looking for something to do. It happens all the time. Something new to eat or if the kids are off at camp, something new to drink.

With all of that in mind, I thought I’d offer you five things you need to try this summer.

Some simple, some a little more involved, but all of them you will eat (or drink) and like.

Bluegrass BrunchBLUEGRASS BRUNCH AT
TYBEE ISLAND SOCIAL CLUB

This brunch actually won runner-up for the 2015 Foodie Awards.

It’s a great scene out there, a couple of blocks from the beach. There is always great food at Social, but add in great music and a lazy Sunday and you might find yourself a pretty good time.

You also just might find half of the area’s chefs who are off on Sundays there. Tybee Island Social Club is at 1311 Butler Ave.

LUNCH IN THE YARD AT THE GREY

The Foodie Award winner for Best New Restaurant offers a $7 plate on the patio every single Saturday afternoon from noon until 3:30 p.m.

The menu is different every week, but whatever Chef Mashama whips up will be fantastic, we can guarantee you that. Besides, you can barely get a burger for $7 these days. So yes, it’s a great deal you need to try. The Grey is at 109 MLK Jr. Blvd.

Wyld Dock BarTHE WYLD DOCK BAR

It’s likely that fans of the former Bonna Bella Yacht Club already know all about what that space has become, but just keep in mind, this isn’t your daddy’s spot for a bite at sunset.

This menu is fantastic, with things like rabbit and quail sausage, lemongrass and ginger sea bass and tuna tar tar. Same fantastic atmosphere, but the offerings have been spiffied up for a a great time. Wyld DOck Bar is at 2740 Livingston Ave.

BLOOD ORANGE MARGARITA
AT ROCKS ON THE ROOF

I’ve had some margaritas in my time. They aren’t all created equally.

Most of the time that stuff in the machine will do just fine, but if you like to push the envelope a little bit with those cocktails, this one is a must try.

It’s not cheap, but you can get cheap any time. Rocks on the Roof is on the top floor of the Bohemian Hotel, 102 W. Bay St.

B's Cracklin'B’S CRACKLIN’ BBQ

I am going to be 100 percent honest and admit that I haven’t been there yet. If you saw my list of “gotta get to’s” you’d laugh at me. This is at the top. In part, I’m adding it to this list so I won’t forget to try it this summer.

Seriously speaking, I had two chefs ask me within the last month if I had tried it yet. Both said, “It’s legit, seriously.” Add to that, they were just featured in Garden and Gun Magazine. Pretty nice honor. Head on out there — you’ll probably see me there. B’s Cracklin’ BBQ is at 57 Coffee Bluff Villa Road.

Let me know if you try any or all of these. You’ve got three months to get to all five. And just think, by the time you do? It will be football season.

Enjoy!

See you on TV.

Jesse
