Another highly anticipated restaurant opening in Savannah appears to be drawing near. The Grey at 109 MLK Blvd in downtown Savannah has been under construction for the better part of 2014, and all we’ve had to this point is a steady trickle of information since we first reported it was coming back over the summer. Well, now we are learning a little bit more.
According to The Grey’s Twitter account (gotta love communication in the new era, huh?) staff training is underway. We also have unconfirmed reports that the restaurant will begin private “soft opens” on Saturday night. For their part, no one at The Grey is talking. We spoke to someone at their New York City public relations firm who told us there is no date set yet for an opening, but they’d be in touch. Training and soft opens usually mean an opening isn’t far off.
For now, we wait. Wait for what could be something pretty fantastic. I have had opportunity to chat with Executive Chef Mashama Bailey about this new venture and she is very excited. What the menu will look like is a closely kept secret, but Chef tells me there is a significant Southern influence. She has the training and the background to be great. Savannah could be in for a real treat with this one.
