Game Day Food

For the record, we’ve enjoyed big game viewing events at most of the popular places in town. But this time around, we wanted to break the mold a little bit and feature some different locations for watching sporting events. It doesn’t have to be the NFL Championship game, not at all. These spots are great for March Madness, NBA Playoffs, College Football next fall or any others. Places where you can find some great food that is a little different from the ho-hum every day chicken wing, potato skin or jalapeno popper. Below you will find the places we mentioned in the show and then some other spots we enjoy watching games.

In order of appearance:

World of BeerTreylor Park – Treylor Park is relatively new to Savannah. Opened in the Fall. Their food is a bit of a departure from the everyday stuff. They wanted it that way. Peanut Butter and Jelly Chicken Wings are fantastic. As are the Treylor Park Nachos. There is a great vibe going on in this spot. “Chill” as the kids like to say these days on the inside. Out back is a beer garden with 9-10 taps and a couple of TVs. Audio for your game as well. Keep in mind, there is no Sunday Ticket or anything hard to find. This is a great spot for something different. Not every college game on Saturday. GREAT music in here as well.

Dub’s Pub – Dub’s is on the Western-not as heavily traveled end-of River Street. At the bottom of the so-called “Stone Stairs of Death” (did you catch the shot of them in the episode?) We like Dub’s because the menu is a little different. Yes, there are chicken fingers. Yes, there are other bar food staples, but the attraction for me here is the burger (which is wonderful) and the tacos (pulled chicken and chorizo are fantastic.) And the beer cheese; cream cheese based with pico and jalapenos. Tons of TVs, great prices and a view of the River. Can you top that? Not really.

World of Beer (DOWNTOWN Savannah) – I capitalize Downtown because it is important to mention that this is a very successful sports bar chain. My attraction to World of Beer on Broughton Street in Savannah is the fact that they have so many TVs (I haven’t counted, but I will guess they are very close to the most in town), but they also let you bring in whatever food you’d like. From anywhere you’d like. Call up your pizza spot and have them deliver? Sure. Bring in $200 worth of sushi with your friends and have a party? You can do that as well. For free. As long as you drink their beer. Which isn’t free. You can even order wings from 520 Wings around the corner. Delivered. Same price, no charge for delivery. Tough to beat that deal.

Other spots we enjoy watching games in Savannah:

Crystal Beer Parlor – Crystal Beer Parlor doesn’t promote itself as a bar. It’s a restaurant with a bar in it. But that bar is huge. There are 3-4 TVs across the wall and some of the best food in town. A sure shot for a game. Just remember, they are a restaurant first. Bar area is huge though.

The Distillery – The Distillery is the local choice for beer drinkers who drink beer. Plenty of televisions and a wonderful selection of beers. Great bar scene there.

Mellow Mushroom – Liberty Street. Yeah, tons of beer. Tons of TVs and some great pies and calzones. Even some wonderful salads if you are watching your girlish figure.
