We had a good time with this one. A lot of good tacos out there. Yes, some cost more than others, but generally they are all pretty cheap. Here they are in the order they appeared.
Adrian Villareal is a fine dining chef turned self-employed taco guy. His restaurant is on the ground floor of a one of those glass box high rise condos in Midtown Atlanta. There are some good tacos in Atlanta. A lot of good tacos. But if you are in Midtown and need a quick lunch, these are about as real as you can get.
**Publico Kitchen and Tap – Columbia, SC
Columbia’s food scene is growing. A lot of new spots have been popping up over the last couple of years. Including this Asian Latin Fusion taco bar. Yeah, you read correctly. Asian Latin Fusion. Sound bizzare? Perhaps. But they are doing it well. They also offer ramen and a number of other asian dishes to go with the taco concept. TVs everywhere. Great place to take in a ball game when you in Five Points part of town.
**Blowin Smoke Cantina – Savannah, GA
Blowin Smoke is Savannah’s neighborhood taqueria. Large indoor/outdoor bar just screaming for you to come in and grab a cold beer and a few tacos. They also do BBQ as well. Sometimes, they put it in a taco.
Others:
**Agave – Bluffton, SC
We wanted to feature Agave, but chose to save their story for another time. In the meantime, they are doing a fantastic job with their taqueria and tequila bar in Old Town Bluffotn. He only serves Patron. Yes. Only Patron. That will tell you the higher standard he holds all of it.
**Minero – Charleston and Atlanta
Minero is celebrity chef Sean Brock’s answer to the modern taqueria and also my favorite. By far. Each corn tortilla is an explosion of flavor. His queso dip? Not cheap at $11 but the best I’ve ever had.
