Several Restaurants Set to Open

It has been the busiest Summer in recent memory. There is so much going on in Savannah, it’s crazy. The funny thing about that sentence is that I feel like I’ve been writing it as we approach the end of Summer every Summer for the last 5 years. Maybe I have, I’m not sure and frankly I am too tired and/or lazy to go back and look. Truth is, even if I did, there is so much going on right now with new food coming on-line that I’m going to take this week to give you a short list of places you need to put in your Palm Pilot. Places where you will be Eating and Liking over the next few months.

**Bull Street Taco. Bull Street Taco is just about ready to roll early September on Bull Street near 33rd. It’s a beautiful, yet smallish space (photo above). Plenty of seating inside, but there will be a patio with a lot more than that once the weather cools off. Their menu is online right now. Looks good. Tacos will go for $3-4. Full liquor bar too.  Dale!

**Prohibition. Prohibition is a “Rustic-Chic Modern American Restaurant” and that is straight from their website. Original location is legendary up in Charleston. There’s been a delay in the opening there on MLK a few doors down from The Grey. At one point, they had hoped to be open for lunch in June. Alas, Savannah happens. That’s not to say the city has had anything to do with the delay, but as those of us paying attention know all to well, things always seem to take a little longer around here. I have a call into the guys at Prohibition, I will let you know when they get back to me. In the meantime, I have every reason to believe it will all be worth the wait.

**1540 Room at The DeSoto Hotel. The makeover at The DeSoto is almost complete. It has been an amazing effort, frankly. It’s almost a complete transformation to the lobby and two restaurants since March. That’s a record pace around here. 1540 Room will be the hotel’s fine dining restaurant headed by Executive Chef Kyle Jacovino. Dinner only as well as Sunday Brunch. I got a sneak peek at the menu and it is good-looking sheet of paper. Creative, different and fun is how I’d describe it. No, you are not going to find Shrimp and Grits on it. Opening mid-September.

**East End Provisions. East End Provisions is the latest effort from Brian Huskey and The Gaslight Group. Truth be told, of all of the spots I’ve mentioned, this is the one that intrigues me the most. The space is the old “Juarez” Mexican Restaurant at the corner of Broughton and Price Streets. It’s getting a complete makeover. A large bar will dominate the front room.  Wood-fired dishes is being used to describe this spot. Huskey tells me it will be different than his very popular B. Matthew’s Eatery a few blocks away. Very much looking forward to what they roll out.

There are a few other projects coming on-line in town. We’ll get to those down the road.  New season of television kicks off September 24th.

See you on TV,

Jesse
