Random Ruminations

Running off at the keyboard while craving great chinese food. It happens.

**I feel like I talk about it all the time, but it overwhelming lately. So many new spots to eat all over Savannah these days. We featured a few of them on our all new episode of Eat It and Like It with Jesse Blanco. Sunday morning, 7:30am on WSAV-TV.

**Of course, the buzz these days is about Sean Brock bringing Husk to Savannah. Read my story on it and our growing food scene here.

**If you missed out on last weekend’s Whiskey Wine and Wildlife on Jekyll Island, you missed a very good one. Trust me. The best $65 ticket on the Georgia Coast. Make plans to join us next year. Check out whiskeywineandwildlife.com

**The latest thing on the market is “Small Batch Milk” yes, milk. You thought organic was absurd at $6 a gallon? How about $14 a gallon. Check out the story here.

**Cinco de Mayo is coming up. Always a good time to enjoy a good time and a margarita or two. Two spots are standing out to me as somewhere I may want to take in a little fiesta. One is Tequila’s Town Sandfly location is having a nice little tequila party. And the sometimes forgotten about Blowin’ Smoke BBQ on Habersham Street downtown. They have a new menu and always have tasty cocktails.

**It’s also Kentucky Derby Weekend next week. One of the best Derby events I’ve ever attended was last year at The Brice Hotel. Chef Dusty Grove put out a great spread of food, the space was incredibly beautiful and the part was really, really great. They are doing it again. As a fundraiser for American Diabetes Association. Check them out on Facebook for details.

**Speaking of The Brice, we are beyond thrilled to have them as our host sight for the 2016 Eat It and Like It Foodie Awards this year. The first two years at The Mansion on Forsyth Park were tremendous (and sold out) events. This one will be no different. We are moving the event to a Sunday night this year. May 22nd at 7:00pm. The vision for The Foodies was always to make it Savannah’s “Oscar Night” in food and beverage. After two successful years, we’ve moved it where we wanted it to be all along. It’s not a boring awards show, it’s the after party. All winners are notified in advance. It will be a great night in one of Savannah’s prettier venues. $35 gets you all the food you can handle and two drinks. Tickets available now, by clicking here.

**No plans for next weekend, join us for Fish to Fork Weekend at The Omni Resort Amelia Island Plantation. It is an incredible three days of culinary mastery. Read more here.

**Once summer kicks in, the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival is around the corner. I attended last year for the first time and loved it. Talk about excess, my goodness. Still a great time. June 2-5, 2016

**If you haven’t heard, McDonald’s is tinkering with all you can eat french fries. Check it out.

**I’ve been chatting with people in the know, and I think we are going to see food trucks in Savannah by the end of the year. Yes, they are already on the streets, but only during festivals. The city is looking at the best way to allow them on the road. These things take time. Who knows, we may be surprised and see them quickly, but don’t count on that.

**Speaking of food trucks, the TV show is focusing on the food truck issue next weekend. May 8th. 7:30am on WSAV-TV. Set your DVR now.

**Sushi fans should try 39 Rue de Jean in the Embassy Suites hotel downtown. Yes, a French spot with great sushi. Not only have I enjoyed it, but I keep having people come up to me and say “Did you know 39 Rue de Jean has great sushi?” Yes, yes, they do.

**Paid my first visit to Palmetto Bluff over in Bluffton last week. I was absolutely amazing at how beautiful it is. And yes, very much open to the public. They are building a new hotel over there. Should open in September. Palmetto Bluff is literally 23 minutes over the Talmadge Bridge before you get to Old Town Bluffton.

**Is it football season yet?  Ugh.

See you on TV,
