Random Ruminations – November 16th

  • There aren’t enough words to express what a great showing Savannah made this week in the eyes of the culinary world with the Savannah Food and Wine Festival. Particularly from a Southern point of view.   Could some things have been a little better?  No doubt.  They will be next year.
  • If you followed along with us on Social Media all week, then you got more than a mouth full.  Not too late.  Find us on Facebook and Twitter @eatitandlikeit.
  • My personal highlight of the week was the Celebrity Chef Tour benefiting the James Beard Foundation.  Read more about that amazing night at the Mansion on Forsyth Park here.
  • If you attended any events and saw our crew, you will see a full 30 minutes.   Sunday morning, December 15th 7:30am on WSAV-TV.
  • There are other things going on in town though.  Savannah Tech is having their traditional holiday fund raising bake sale.  Fresh breads, muffins, pies.  All of it.  For more information, click here.  The deadline to order is November 21st.
  • Savannah’s world class chocolatier, Adam Turoni, is holding a chocolate class!  Do you want to impress some of your friends this holiday season?  November 26th 7pm-9pm.  Please visit Adam’s website for more information.
  • More Food Festival:   I had the honor of spending a good bit of time with the one and only Elizabeth Terry.  All she did was create Elizabeth on 37th.
  • By now you know Hugh Acheson is opening an Italian restaurant called “The Florence” on Victory Drive in Savannah.  Did you know Hugh dispatched his hand chosen Executive Chef from 5&10 in Athens,  Kyle Jacovino, (pictured above) to Italy to prepare for his Italian concept?  Yes, knowing full well it would be here in Savannah.   I think we are in for a treat.
  • Our Gourmet Foodie tour now rolls once per week.  Every Sunday night.  Read more about it here.  Hope to see you on one very soon.
  • Plenty of places around town offering up Thanksgiving meals so you don’t have to do any cooking if you don’t want to,  or need some last minute sides.  Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, FORM, and as I mentioned already, Savannah Tech are just some.
  • Not too early to mention Iron Chef Savannah, is it?  Yes, our 2nd Chef Competition will be February 23rd at the Southern Women’s Show.  Bigger and better than ever.  Save the date.
