Random Ruminations – July 5th

  • On the heels of two big restaurant openings this summer with Pacci Savannah in the Brice Hotel and Hugh Acheson’s The Florence on Victory Drive, a third major restaurant is coming to Savannah that has a number of people excited.
  • Eat It and Like It had Savannah’s first look look inside The Florence two days after it opened.  Miss out?  No problem.  See our video here.
  • 39 Rue de Jean made their announcement some weeks ago.  The French Bistro style restaurant (pictured above) will go in the ground level of the new Embassy Suites hotel across the street from the bus terminal on Oglethorpe Street in Downtown Savannah.  Look for it to open early Fall.  I’ll have more about it very soon.
  • I am also told there is space to be leased out surrounding the rest of the block adjacent to the Thunderbird Inn and Embassy Suites.  There are loose plans right now for an Irish Pub to go in one of the spaces but another tenant is confirmed.
  • Starbucks Coffee will be opening it’s third downtown Savannah location on that same block with the Embassy Suites.  The other two located at Bull and Broughton streets and inside the Kroger Supermarket on Gwinnett and Habersham.  Great news for the Western end of downtown Savannah.
  • Unfortunately the news not so good for Brasserie 529 on Liberty Street.  As I reported a couple of weeks ago, they’ve closed.  Their last day was June 28th.  Owners tell me they are planning to re-open with a different concept.  They own the building and are looking forward to another go of it soon.
  • I peeked in on Lori Collins and Savannah Coffee Roasters this week.  It’s a great spot for coffee and house made pastries.  Lori tells me there are plans for lunch time sandwiches plus small plates and beer and wine for the evening crowd.  She is waiting on the thumbs up from the city, but everything should be in place by Labor Day.  Should be, remember, the city is involved.
  • Shameless plug #1 – We have begun production of our new season of Eat It and Like It.  We’ll be bopping around Savannah in the next few weeks.  If you see us, please say hello.
  • New episodes will premiere Sunday, September 14th on WSAV-TV.
  • Speaking of, coming out of the May Neilsen ratings period our ratings continue to be very strong.  Still the highest rated local TV show in Savannah/Hilton Head Island DMA (excluding newscasts, of course).  Thank you to all for your support.
  • Hearing great early returns from Tybee Island Fish Camp.  Brought to you by the same fine folk that run Tybee Island Social Club.  I owe Kurtis and Sarah a visit, but I’m deliberately waiting until after the holiday weekend to take a ride out to the island.
  • Admittedly, I haven’t tried this non-alcoholic drink, but I am going to  Maybe even next weekend.  Watermelon, Jalapeno Lime-ade?  Sounds delicious.  I’ll let you know.
  • New chef, new menu at Bar Food in Habersham Village.
  • Noble Fare is taking a tiny vacation, then rolling out their own new menu.  I’ll share it soon.
