Random Ruminations – January 23

**I don’t usually talk about what is coming up in future episodes of Eat It and Like It with Jesse Blanco. There is no particular. We just like to have everyone join us on Sunday mornings at 7:30am on WSAV-TV. That said, a few program notes for the next few weeks.

**Sunday, January 23 will be an encore presentation

**We will be back on the 30th with new episodes that will explore a number of different topics. Those will include the history of food in the region, a look inside some area school lunch programs and a weight gaining venture into some of best desserts you can find. Yes, desserts. Should be a lot of fun. Set your VCR. Does anyone still have one of those?

**It has been a very busy month for us here. Eat It and Like It had two huge exclusive stories. We can’t imagine you’ve missed them, but in case you did, one was on the closing of Juarez Mexican Restaurant downtown Savannah. The other was an honest chat with Roberto Leoci about the closing of his restaurant and pending move to New York City.

**Rocks on the Roof at The Bohemian Hotel has a new lunchtime program. Two courses and a soft drink for $12. They’ll get you out the door in 30 minutes. Perfect spot for something different for a business lunch. Monday through Friday from 11am until 2pm

**It’s too cold to think about a farmers market, but when the Wilmington Island Market kicks back up in a month or so, they will have a new location. Islands High School. More room, more parking, more market.

**Speaking of markets, Bethesda Academy’s market has announced new hours. Wednesdays 3pm until 5pm

**A couple of interesting finds around town. First, house made cheesecakes at Tondee’s Tavern on Bay Street downtown Savannah. They come in individual mason jars. They are really good. It’s called Cheesecake Market. They do mail order as well. Click here for more information.

**The other are the mushroom side dish at Cotton and Rye. The dining room at Cotton and Rye is full every night. Yes, every night. But their mushroom side dish is a delicate balance of amazing. Try it and like it.

**Congratulations to our friend Adam Turoni on being named a Top 10 Chocolatier in America by Dessert Professional Magazine. An industry leader. He will be honored in a ceremony in New York City on February 27th.

**A legendary spot, and one I have enjoyed many times in Charleston, is closing. Blind Tiger Pub is shutting its doors as we knew it. There will still be an establishment there, but I’m gathering there will be an overhaul to the concept. Read more from Eater Charleston here.

**Savannah Restaurant Week is coming. January 29-February 7th. Two full weekends to enjoy 3 courses for $30 at any one of 24 participating restaurants. The burger pictured is from 39 Rue de Jean. One of the restaurants participating this season.  Click here for a full list.

**Wednesday nights at Noble Fare have become one of the best neighborhood parties in Savannah. A couple of weeks ago they had burgers and Southbound brews, this week it will be All you Can Eat Oysters and Champagne. For $20. Give em a call, let them know you are coming.

**They’ve started a very popular murder mystery dinner at Savannah Coffee Roasters. The food, I’m told is reall good as well. Find out more here.
