There’s a unique event on the horizon you might find just a little bit interesting. If nothing else, it’s a little bit different from the typical type of food-related events you seen on the region’s culinary calendar.
Chef Lauren Teague and her staff at Atlantic are teaming up with the ladies of BIg Bon Pizza to hold a pop up dinner. Not just a pizza party, either. They are calling it “Hunt, Gather, Feast” and it will feature a quail-inspired feast and wine pairing on Monday, October 2nd from 6pm until 8pm
“They do such a good job with their pizzas” Chef Lauren says “I always thought they should be the wood-fire burning oven ladies. Not just the pizza ladies.”
The idea was worked out over a period of months and inspired by a photo spread in Covey Rise Magazine. “We were asked about quail hunting in Georgia when we were in Chicago learning how to make pizza” Big Bon Co-owner Kaye Heritage says. “The more we talked about it, the more we thought there could be an opportunity here to put together a hunting-inspired feast.” “As soon as we saw the spread in the magazine, we wanted to do a dinner.”
The inspiration, visually brought to life by Savannah’s Flourish Collaborative, has led to the first event of its kind in Savannah.
The event will be on a Monday night and will feature a full restaurant take over. There will be stations set up all across the restaurant and outdoor area. Dishes will include Oysters Rockafeller, Scallops in shell, Gumbo, Quail Confit and a special twist being put together by Chef Lauren.
“I was inspired by the dish in Like Water for Chocolate” she says. “So we are going to do Quail in Rose Petal Sauce” “The dishes we are doing are generally going to be tied to stories.”
“This is going to be so much fun” Teague says “It’s always fun to throw a party and do things outside of our every day menu.” There will also be a wine and champagne pairing.
