Hot Summer of Eating and Liking

We usually spend our summer time at the beach or up to our eyeballs in a swimming pool ’round these parts. It’s just too brutal to do anything otherwise. But if some of our favorite eats in and around the Savannah area are going to throw a party, well then we are very likely to line up to Eat It and Like It. Here’s a list of a few events you need to put on your calendar over the next couple weeks. We don’t list events often, but when a few really good ones come across my desk at the same time, then I’m gonna rack ’em, stack ’em and blast them out the door.

Bastille Day Celebration at Circa 1875

We celebrate our independence on the 4th of July, our friends in France enjoy theirs on July 14th. The guys at Circa 1875 on Whitaker Street are throwing a party. A full blown weekend long celebration. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. There will be a crepe station set up and musical entertainment most of the night.  Yes, you can still enjoy dinner, but I’d make a reservation sooner rather than later because they will likely fill up if they haven’t already. Chef David is going to prepare a different authentic French specialty each night in addition to their regular menu. If you’ve never eaten down in the cellar at 1875, ask for a seat down there. One of my favorite dining coves in the city. You’d never know you are 4,000 miles from Les Deaux Magots.

Back in the Day Bakery/Southern Soul BBQ Pop Up

No, your eyes do not deceive you. Two of the most popular spots to eat in the South happen to be less than 100 miles away from each other. Lucky you for one morning only, you’ll find them both in one spot. The BBQ Masters from Southern Soul on St. Simon’s Island are rolling up into Savannah’s Starland neighborhood Saturday morning, July 15th. The exact menu is TBA, but there will likely be some of their amazing pulled pork and more. Back in the Day will undoubtedly offer their flaky biscuits to go along with the BBQ. The invite says 9am until 3pm but you know how BBQ works, when it is gone, it’s gone y’all. Not a good idea to show up at 2:56pm and then get bent when you find out all of the goods been got. Get there early.

One year Anniversary Luau at Hitch

If you haven’t made it to one of their Saturday Disco Brunches, then you don’t know that the guys at Hitch know how to throw a party. It’s hard to believe it has been a year since the very popular Treylor Park on Bay Street spun off a 2nd location on Liberty and Drayton Streets. Hitch was intended to be a spot for locals and has largely lived up to that billing. Saturday afternoon is their one year anniversary party. A whole pig roast and plenty of sides for only $10. The pig will make his appearance at 1pm, the party will last until 5pm. Good opportunity to enjoy a Saturday afternoon indoors.

Big Bon Pizza Pop-Up in Pooler

Hey, Pooler! Looking for some zing in your zang zang? Welp, Big Bon Pizza is coming to your city! If you’ve not tried it yet, this is a must. Big Bon Pizza is a food truck. No brick and mortar location to visit. The ladies in charge move around the area and offer their pizzas in different locations depending on the day of the week. Last week on Bull Street in Savannah they sold out of everything in 2 hours. Yes, the pizzas are that good, so you got get them while they are hot. My understanding is Saturday July 29th will be their 1st pop-up in Pooler. They’ll be at The Front Porch coffee shop on Collins Street. There will be live music and plenty of fun from 5:30pm until 9pm.

Oh and by the way, thank me later for the Big and Rich ear worm. College football season 5 weeks out y’all. Click here.

See you on TV,

Jesse
