Bed and Breakfasts

Bed and Breakfasts was one of those episodes we had talked about for well over a year.  The more I think about it, the more I believe it was actually closer to two years.  Savannah is unique in that it has about 40 B&Bs in the area, but certainly they are not exclusive to Savannah.  Anywhere that enjoys a good bit of history will likely also have a good bit of inns that try to make the vacation experience different and charming.  From simple bites to eat, to drawn out spreads in the evening, they are historic, they are beautiful and they offer plenty of different things that you can Eat and Like.

The Ballastone Inn is one of the most beautiful in Savannah.  Ozella George is a lovely lady who enjoys every part of what she does, from brewing fresh coffee first thing in the morning to whipping up dough and batter for the afternoon pastries.  It’s a gorgeous property (as they all are) and definitely worth a visit.   Matt Damon, Kevin Spacey and Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are just some of the people known to have stayed there.

Azalea Inn and Gardens is on the Southern end of Savannah’s historic district.  Teresa Jacobson is part of a group of people who visited Savannah once upon a time and thought “wow, wouldn’t it be great to live here?”  Not only does she live in Savannah, but she owns an Inn.  Guess what?  It even has a pool.

Back almost a year ago I had a group on our Gourmet Foodie Tour.  In chatting with one of our guests, I asked where they were staying.  The lady says “Oh my goodness, we are at the Zeigler House Inn.”   Not exactly the answer I expected, so I asked if something was wrong with it.  “No!” she replied. “We have stayed at Bed and Breakfasts all over the country.  And the Ziegler House by FAR the best.”  Quite a statement, but who am I to judge.  That moved them to the top of our research list and, yes, from its beauty to its approach to food, the Ziegler House is a treasure.

Of course there are others in the area like the Hamilton Turner Inn, Presidents Quarters, The Gastonian and The Dresser Palmer House.  The problem is we only get 30 minutes to tell you about them.  Less if you include commercials.  So we try to pick a nice variety and offer them to you to enjoy.  And see plenty of things that you can Eat and Like along the way.

See you on TV.

  1. Thank you for turning your EAT IT AND LIKE IT spotlights on the wonderful cuisine at Zeigler House Inn, and more broadly, on the city’s beautiful historic inns. I’ve called them the “365/24/7 hospitality ambassadors”, rightfully working to present the best of Savannah along with their restored homes and personal hospitality. Three cheers for the home team! ** Rah! Rah! Rah! ** #Rerun #Rerun #Rerun
