2016 Hilton Head Island Wine and Food Festival

There are tons of festivals across the South. Anything and everything from Shrimp and Grits on Jekyll Island, Music to Your Mouth is one of the most popular every year, it’s held in Bluffton. The Hilton Head Wine and Food Festival is one of the oldest around. That festival is in its 31st year and lining itself up for another great event March 7-13, 2016 at Sea Pines Plantation.

There are a number of events planned, but really the signature events are the Grand Tasting on Friday night the 11th and the Public Tasting on Saturday the 12th. Guests have the opportunity to sample wines a good number of the over 400 wines that were entered this year. One of the things that makes this festival unique is that there is judging associated with it. “A lot of places have wine judging” says Jeff Gerber, the Executive Director of the event.”But there isn’t a festival component attached to it. We have both.”

Wines were judged over two days at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island the weekend of February 5-6. Dozens of judges participated in this year’s event. Sommeliers and other wine experts from across the region were on hand. Winners will be announced ahead of the Wine and Food Festival in March. Winning wines will be available at auction during the public tasting as well. Proceeds from the auction go to the festival’s scholarship fund.
