91 Days…A unique look at Savannah

A while back I was having lunch at Wiley’s BBQ on Whitemarsh Island. I don’t recall what was on my plate, but pulled pork was somewhere in the neighborhood, I can guarantee you that. During my visit, chatting with ownership there, I found out there were some visitors from out of town in the house. Not a particular surprise, I’ve heard countless stories of people making a point to stop in Savannah for no other reason than to have Wiley’s Championship BBQ. For those that aren’t familiar with the layout of the city, that is quite a drive off of the nearest interstate exit. It’s not far, just not particularly easy to get to. Especially if you don’t like red lights. Worth the drive? Absolutely, I would never deny that.

The visits this particular day were bloggers. I was told they travel the world and spend exactly 90 days in each city they visit. Not more, not less. Then they write about it. I found the concept fascinating actually. There are a lot of bloggers out there. Some better than others, others far more entertaining than others. If memory serves, they were just wrapping up their 90 days in Savannah with lunch at Wiley’s. They were headed to South America within a day or so. Oh, the life, huh?

Michael Powell and Jurgen Horn are the travelers. Come to find out, they took their adventures in Savannah and blogged about them obviously, but later turned those blogs into a e-book. It’s called “Savannah for 91 days.”

There are plenty of guide books out there that can help you navigate Savannah. Give you some history lessons and overall lay the downtown area out. I found their take on our fine city rather interesting. Especially since they weren’t here for a long weekend or something like that. Three months can really give you a feel for a commmunity, the people, the places that consistently do a nice job and what are the sights that you should make a point of seeing if you are only in Savannah for a short time.

While the book doesn’t reflect some of the newer spots that have opened in Savannah since they visited, their view of Savannah is worth taking a look at. For tourists or locals looking to take advantage of a cool Fall afternoon in order to play tourist. It can be ordered online and downloaded right into your electronic gadget of choice. Perfect for sharing with a family member or friend who is planning to make a visit to Savannah in the very near future. Best part? It’s only $5  Five bucks? Yeah. Five bucks.

Click here to take a look more information about the book.

Their blog is called for91days.com

As I write this, they are in Montreal.

See you on TV,

Jesse
