2018 Eat It and Like It Foodie Award Winners

For the last few weeks, we’ve been inviting everyone to a party. A party many of you really knew nothing about. All you knew was we were beating a drum talking about the Eat It and Like It Foodie Awards. The most loyal followers among you know all about our Foodie Awards. They started in 2013 at The Mansion on Forsyth Park. They were a huge hit right out of the box. We couldn’t have been any happier with the direction we went in.

So what’s it about?

We eat a lot around here. Sometimes it might be a mindless burger or chicken sandwich or a bowl of soup. Most times, though, we are paying attention to what is being done well and what is being done right in the Savannah/Hilton Head restaurant scene.

Dishes get our attention. We discuss, we recommend. We take notes. I say we because while it is my face up on the TV every Sunday morning, there is no chance I do this alone. After months of debate (or not as the case may be) we’ve arrived at what we believe is the best in food and drink in our region.

So who decides?

Over the years our panel reached as many as 6 people. Everyone got a vote and sometimes my favorite didn’t win. I’ve always been OK with that as long as we agree why someone should win. This year, and going forward we are down to three of us. Myself, of course, and two other area residents who’s names we will not divulge. The reasons for the secrecy are multiple. The best way to gauge a dining experience sometimes is through anonymity. The two people we have solicited to help us choose Savannah/Bluffton and Hilton Head Island’s very best will remain in the shadows. It’s about integrity and it is the one thing we are most proud of.

Unlike most “Best of” contests out there, our Foodie Awards aren’t actually a contest. It’s not about soliciting clicks to a website, it’s not about begging for votes on social media. It’s not a popularity contest and most certainly isn’t about giving your biggest sponsors a public ‘atta boy’ for another year’s worth of support.

The Eat It and Like It Foodie Awards are about selecting the area’s best. No one will ever be asked to purchase an ad from us because of the publicity they will receive by winning our award.

All of that said, you can click here for our list of 2018 Winners. They have been notified already and have been invited to celebrate the regions best food with us, Sunday night May 6, 2018 Poolside at The Desoto Hotel downtown Savannah.

Congratulations to all our winners! We will see you on May 6th

Jesse
